Some 3,300 hectares have been burned on the northern outskirts of Marseille with firefighters still trying to get the wildfires under control. Here are some images of what they have been dealing with.

The images below show the early stages of the fires north of Marseille on Wednesday afternoon, before they grew “out of control” throughout the night.

France mobilised 1,500 firefighters to tackle wildfires in countryside north of Marseille that have gutted buildings and forced more than 1,000 people to flee their homes.
