Learn to yodel on an Austrian mountaintop

One of Austria’s most popular tourism destinations has added another attraction to it’s belt with the addition of summer yodelling workshops on top of a mountain.

Lead by young yodelling teacher Thomas Reitsamer, the workshops are taking place near the Zell am See resort in the state of Sazlburg every Thursday until the end of August.

Participants learn the different types of singing – including how to “ho-lo-di-yo“ – as well as breathing techniques and even the history of yodelling.

The course, which lasts about an hour-and-a-half, takes place on top of the picturesque Schmittenhöhe mountain where participants can sing to their heart’s content in front of impressive views.

“Schmittenhohe is perfect because we have mountain views above and the mountain lakes below,” said Reitsamer, describing it as a “paradise on earth”.

Yodelling enthusiasts, and those want to become one, are invited to meet at 9.45 a.m. at the valley station of the Schmittenhöhe railway. A ticket for the cable car to take participants up the mountain is included in the price of the workshop.
