Naked corpse on Munich shop floor bewilders neighbours

On Monday, a pedestrian in Munich noticed something in the window of a fabric store: the naked corpse of its owner.

The pedestrian called the police and fire brigade, who arrived on the scene but neglected to cover the windows.

The man's body was visible from the street for several hours. The police had blocked the door, but passers-by could still see inside the shop.

Police arrived at the scene at 5.30pm and the body remained there for all to see until a neighbour, Fabian Schneider, asked them to at least cover up the scene.

“I just found it disrespectful to the deceased,” the man told the Münchener Abendzeitung.

He said the same thing to the police, and reportedly at first received a reply saying that the man's body could not be moved or touched until a medical examiner arrived on the scene. Officers informed him that he should mind his own business.

Schneider asked again more firmly, and the police did eventually cover up the business owner's body. But in total the body was visible and uncovered for around six hours.

A police spokesperson said that you had to really look hard to see the body through the window, but police are still investigating why nobody covered the windows.

The shop owner also lived at the fabric store, and some of the rooms in the back were living spaces.

The 68-year-old's body was eventually taken to forensics at 11pm, and the verdict was that there was no sign of foul play, and that the shop owner most likely died of natural causes.

Police are still investigating why the man was naked when he passed away.
