Bestselling Swedish crime author Camilla Läckberg has opened up about her post-pregnancy body image issues in a frank new post on her blog.

Läckberg’s latest update is entitled “An Honest Confession”, and includes two full-body pictures of the writer, who admits she is uncomfortable with her fitness after recently giving birth.

“This post is unbelievably difficult for me to do,” she writes. “I’ll readily admit that I would rather upload images where I feel pretty. Which is not what I’m doing with these at all.”

Läckberg, who had a child with her partner Simon Sköld last April, speculates that she may be considered a bad role model for expressing her unhappiness.

“I’m sorry if I’m a bad female role model, but no, no, no, I don’t like myself at all just now, and I long to return to my normal shape,” she explains. “That’s how terribly uncool I am. I long to be able to put on my ripped jeans, and to put on my normal bra with a C-cup instead of F-cups. I long to have my body back. The one I have been accustomed to for over 10 years now.”

Läckberg also posted the pictures on her Instagram account, leading to a wave of praise from her followers, who identified with the sentiment expressed in her post and thanked her for sharing it.

“Thanks for letting us see something different than these 'perfect' mums who show off their slim bodies without the slightest flaw”, said one response. Another wrote “I love that someone has put into words what I have thought for so long, thanks!”.

Despite her unease with her physical condition, the Ice Princess author was careful to point out that she has no desire to diet in reaction. “I haven’t dieted in over 10 years and see absolutely no reason to start now. It’s both stupid, unhealthy, and unproductive,” she states, adding that she will look to “eat healthily and start to move around more” in an effort to feel better.

Läckberg, 41, has a track record of speaking her mind on her personal blog. In March she hit out at critics of her relationship with 28-year-old Sköld, saying it was “bullshit that someone has the nerve to express views about a person they do not know”.

The Swedish wordsmith is best known for her Fjällbacka series, which sees detective Patrick Hedström and writer Erica Falck team up to solve mysteries in the eponymous town. Läckberg’s work has been translated into over 20 languages.
