Shoppers in a jewellery shop in Montpellier, southern France, got a fright on Wednesday when a swarm of bees swarmed the shop's entrance.

The shopkeeper ushered customers out the back exit as more bees swarmed in, reported the Midi Libre newspaper.

In fact, a local beekeeper who was called in to get rid of the bees reckoned a full 15,000 were on hand.

The beekeeper managed to remove the bees before anyone was hurt, and before they could get their hands on the jewellery inside.

It's not uncommon for bees to move in swarms at this time of year in France, as they look for new places to build hives.
