The duo had been set to kick off the final leg of their RoXXXette 30th Anniversary Tour in Switzerland on June 3rd, before travelling onwards to countries such as Germany, the United Kingdom and Russia.
But on Monday the Swedish pop group issued a press release announcing that the summer shows had all been cancelled after Fredriksson's doctor advised her to quit touring.
The artist, who reunited with her fellow Roxette member Per Gessle in 2010 after being diagnosed with brain cancer eight years earlier, said she was sad, but proud, to leave behind a long career and vast collection of global hits.
“It's been an amazing 30 years! I feel nothing but joy and happiness when I look back on the Roxette world tours. All our shows and memories over the years will forever be a big part of my life,” said the 57-year-old.
“Sadly, now my touring days are over and I want to take this opportunity to thank our wonderful fans that have allowed us on our long and winding journey.”
Roxette fans flocked to social media to leave messages of support for the singer and band.

Formed in Halmstad in western Sweden, Roxette enjoyed their heyday in the 1980s, producing hits such as 'Listen To Your Heart', 'Sleeping In My Car' and 'It Must Have Been Love' – the latter made famous in Hollywood blockbuster 'Pretty Woman' in 1990. They later gained a cult following all over the world.
The Swedes leave behind 557 live shows, 75 million albums sold, 51 singles released and four US Billboard number ones, making them one of Sweden's, and indeed the world's, most successful bands.
“Who would have thought this small town band from the Swedish west coast were to be still on the loose after 30 years! We've done mind-blowing gigs all over the world that have taken us far beyond our wildest and craziest dreams,” said Gessle.
He thanked fans for supporting the duo through the years, but dedicated most of his words to Fredriksson.
“Most of all I want to thank the mighty Marie, the Amazon of the holy voice, the Goddess of superb rock performance, the liberated and magnificent interpreter of my humble words and music, for this magic carpet ride which took us to the top of all the mountains,” he said.
“My God, what a great view we've had! The joyride on the road is over now – but we sure had fun, didn't we?”
Tour organizer LiveNation said all tickets would be refunded.
