Despite the dreary weather that greeted Denmark on Wednesday, one sure sign that summer is on its way came in the form of the final line-up release from the Roskilde Festival. 

 

The festival, northern Europe’s largest with over 130,000 attendees, added 105 acts to the bill, led by veteran rocker Neil Young. 

 

Other names added to the bill on Wednesday included heavy metal stalwarts Slayer, French electronic outfit M83, and alternative pop divas Grimes and Santigold.

 

The festival’s head of programme, Anders Wahrén, said Roskilde was stoked to welcome a returning giant back to the Orange Stage.

 

“Neil Young is as relevant as he’s ever been with his astonishing ability to try new things and work with new people,” he said. “During his last visit in 2008 he called Roskilde Festival the greatest festival in the world, and there’s no doubt in my mind that he will once again deliver an overwhelming show with both new material and all the classics.”

 

The eight-day festival’s final line-up has 179 acts from more than 30 countries.

 

“We have literally travelled the world the past year to find the stars of tomorrow that will perform next to legends and established acts. During our travels we have found new favourite artists ourselves, and we’re convinced that our enthusiastic guests will fall in love with new artists at the festival as well,” Wahrén said. 

 

Previously-announced performers include LCD Soundsystem, New Order, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Wiz Khalifa and Tame Impala. 

 

Although the festival presented Wednesday’s announcement as the final line-up, it also teased that “a handful” of other acts would get added to the bill before things kick off on June 25. 

 

The Roskilde announcement came one day after Aarhus’s NorthSide festival, which has established itself as a major competitor in just a few short years, released its final 2016 bill. The acts that will perform there between June 17-19 include Beck, Iggy Pop, Deftones, Lukas Graham and Sigur Rós. 

 

The Tinderbox festival, held in Odense on June 23-25, says it still has a few names to add but has announced acts including Rammstein, Volbeat, The National and Band of Horses for its second annual instalment.
