Richard S., 24, spied on women by placing a mobile phone in his shoe and then sticking his foot under the partition between the changing rooms. He was only caught last year after a 15-year-old girl spotted his foot and alerted an employee of the leisure centre in Glenrothes who was then able to help police identify the culprit.

After being identified, police raided his home and found video images on his computer and two mobile phones showing three different women and girls getting undressed and drying themselves in the changing rooms.

While appearing in Dunfermline Sheriff Court, Richard S. admitted he had spied on young women and girls on numerous occasions between December 14th 2014 and March 10th 2015.

The judge in the case – known as the Sheriff in Scotland – said the defendant had tried to blame the design of the changing room.

“You put part of the blame on the design of the changing room but the blame is entirely on you,” said Sheriff Charles MacNair.

Richard S. was jailed for nine months and placed on the sex offenders register for ten years, as well as being banned from mixed changing areas for the same period.

The Austrian had been living in Scotland for several years and had been studying nursing, although he has now left the course.
