And now the Dublin-founded bargain clothes chain, Primark, is planning its first foray in the city.
The retailer will open its first store in Milan’s new Arese shopping centre on April 14th, according to an announcement on the Primark Italy Facebook page.
The store is among three planned for Italy.
Starbucks, the global coffee chain which announced its first foray into Italy in February, will also be located in the same shopping centre.
Primark, known in Ireland as Penneys, has 280 stores in the UK and across other parts of Europe, including France, Spain, Germany, Portugal, Belgium and the Netherlands.
Primark has boomed thanks to its cheap clothes strategy.
But although the price lures millions of people into the store, Italians are still hoping for at least a modicum of 'chic'.
“I'm hoping it's not the cheap stuff,” one woman commented on Facebook.
