The two Danes, a 49-year-old and his 20-year-old son, were reported missing after they failed to return to Denmark from their skiing trip on Wednesday as planned. Their car had last been spotted in Bessheim last weekend but no one had heard from the two men.
A family member contacted the authorities and the local Red Cross put together a snowmobile search team to look for the Danes. To everyone’s great relief, they were found safe and sound.
“They were found in something that is called the Gjendebu Turisthytte [a tourist cabin, ed.] where they had sought shelter,” Innlandet Police District spokesman Atle von Obstfelder told Danish news agency Ritzau.
“They spent a bit more time skiing than they had planned and therefore sought shelter in the cabin,” he added.
The two Danes had no idea that they were the subject of a search operation. They told the search team that they had tried to reach their family back in Denmark but were unable to get a phone signal.
The Danes planned to spend Wednesday night in the cabin and return to their car on Thursday morning to begin the trip back to Denmark.
