News agency NTB reported that the man carried out sexual attacks on a total of 11 girls that ranged in age from infancy to 18. The man also on at least two occasions had sex with animals.
After the man was arrested last autumn, police confiscated over 1.5 million photos, at least 60,000 of which were deemed illegal. There were also videos that allegedly showed explicit attacks.
When police arrested the man, they found images depicting the rape of an infant. Police said that when confronted with the photo, the man seemed surprised.
“I cannot look at it, it can’t be me. That is the worst thing I have ever seen,” he said in court.
The man’s lawyer said he would appeal the decision.
“I haven’t gone through the judgement with him yet, but spoke with him briefly. His immediate reaction was that he will appeal the verdict,” Vegard Aaløkken told NTB.
Prosecutors argued that there was a risk that the man would strike again.
“If you’ve carried out a series of attacks on children, you need to admit it and work on alternative patterns of behaviour when the urge arises. But as long as you don’t recognize [the problem] despite what the facts show, then this sentence is proper,” the public prosecutor said in court, according to NTB.
At least eight years of the 12 year sentence will be mandatory and the terms can be extended by five years at a time after the initial period.
