The accident occurred around 2:50 pm on Sunday afternoon in Telephonweg in Vienna's Donau City 22nd district.

Emergency services were quickly on the scene, saying that it looked like a battlefield.

Each of the two vehicles was almost completely wrecked, but remained upright at the side of the road.

Police believe that the 45-year-old man lost control of his vehicle, swerving into the path of the oncoming car.  The cause of the accident is not yet clear.

According to emergency services, the occupants of the two cars must have had their guardian angels working overtime, as the six passengers involved sustained only minor injuries.

There were two people in the car of the 19-year-old driver, and four in the car of the 45-year-old driver.
