Snow fell in thick flakes on Sunday afternoon across the Bundesrepublik, but according to police reports the only serious accident took place in Baden Württemberg in south-west Germany, where a 28-year-old driver lost control of her car on black ice and crashed into a tree.
In the accident the young woman’s grandmother was fatally wounded and her mother and sister sustained serious injuries.
In the Stuttgart region there was also a pile up involving seven cars – but only two people were lightly injured as a result.
The German Weather Service (DWD) is warning that the cold front is settling on for the coming days.
