Italy set to shiver as temperature plummets

The balmy weather across Italy over the past few weeks is set to come to an abrupt end this weekend, with temperatures plunging by up to 15 degrees Celsius.

The drastic change will bring rain and thunderstorms across the country, with the areas worst hit being the north east, areas along the Adriatic coast and the islands off the Tyrrhenian coast, 3BMeteo reported.

Just two weeks ago, Italy was basking in temperatures of up to 25 degrees Celsius, with people flocking to the beach, at least in the southern regions.

But over the next few days, temperatures will fall between 10 and 15 degrees Celsius – helped by strong winds – from highs of between 15 and 18 degrees Celsius.

The Arctic cold front, which will spread from northern and central Europe, will also bring snow to the Alps as well as mountain areas in Emilia-Romagna and Le Marche.
