A new book from Flemming Østergaard, a former managing director of FC Copenhagen, reveals that the now-dead dictator Muammar Gaddafi attempted to buy the Danish club in 2006.

Ekstra Bladet reported on Friday that in the upcoming book ‘Exit Parken’, Østergaard details Gaddafi’s attempt to buy FC Copenhagen in 2006.

Østergaard wrote that a Swiss lawyer contacted Parken Sport & Entertainment, FC Copenhagen’s owner, on behalf of a ‘wealthy client’ who was interested in the club. Østergaard, the company’s chairman, sent his own lawyer down to Switzerland to hear more.

The lawyer, Henrik Nørkær, said that his Swiss counterpart was initially reluctant to reveal the interested buyer but eventually stated that it was the dictator, who ruled over Libya from 1969 until his death during the Arab Spring uprising in 2011.

“It’s Colonel Gaddafi who is behind the offer,” Østergaard’s lawyer, Henrik Nørkær, told him.

“Okay, then you can tell them that this stops here. We’re not interested. You can just come back home,” Østergaard told Nørkær.

The book also reveals that Østergaard was approached by an agent who tried to get him to sign Gaddafi’s son, Al-Saadi, told the Copenhagen club. That offer too was rebuffed by Østergaard.
