The court also ordered therapautic treatment for the man who stabbed the victim, a 34-year-old French woman, at the Markuskirke bus stop on the night of July 17th 2013.
The court heard the Spaniard was armed with a hatchet and a knife when he waited for his girlfriend to return to the apartment they shared, the 20 Minuten newspaper reported online.
When his girlfriend arrived at the apartment with a friend a scuffle ensued and the victim fled to the bedroom, the daily said.
He broke down the door and she escaped form the apartment after he started stabbing her, according to the testimony of the victim’s friend.
The convicted man pursued the woman to the bus stop in front of St. Mark-s church, where he stabbed her again before running away, 20 Minuten said.
The woman bled to death and he was arrested three weeks later.
The defendant earlier said his girlfriend had driven him into isolation by telling him he couldn’t trust anyone.
“I was completely beside myself and had not eaten for days,” he told the court.
He maintained that he was trying to find a solution to their problems and maintained: “I did not kill”, although he acknowledged that it was not a good idea to talk to her with an axe in his hand.
A forensic psychiatrist earlier told the court the Spaniard suffered from a severe personality disorder.
