Justin Bieber walks out of painfully awkward live interview in Madrid

The Canadian singer walked out during a Spanish radio interview on Wednesday after a series of questions got lost in translation.

The 'What do you mean?' singer was scheduled for two interviews in central Madrid but disappeared halfway through the first… and never returned.

The video of the incident (below) shows the singer get more and more annoyed at the questions, asked in Spanish and translated into broken English until he eventually just gets up and leaves around eight minutes into the awkward exchange.

The hosts of radio show Los 40 Principales are heard shouting “Justin”, “Justin”, but the singer ignores their pleas and makes a dash out of the studio.

Bieber fans have criticized the star on social media for his distracted and dismissive attitude during the interview and for bailing before he was due to sing.

“Well that was one awkward interview,” Belieber123 wrote under the video on YouTube.

“A very apathetic attitude,” wrote Xabi.

But many commenters pointed out that the show should have found someone who could speak English to interview Bieber:

“I feel like if you interview big international stars you should at least be able to speak English without help from a translator because it is really not comfortable having people talk about you in another language. That’s disrespectful,” wrote Sindy Kusumanto.

The singer's unenthusiastic attitude did not improve as the day wore on. He made an appearance on wacky Spanish television programme El Hormiguero on Wednesday night, where he was equally uninterested.

Bieber was in Madrid fresh from the MTV Europe Music Awards where he cleaned up, winning five out of the six awards he was nominated for, including Best Male and Best Worldwide Act.
