A passenger who attempted to make it on to a departing train got his foot stuck in the door as the train departed, ripping his leg from his body.

Railway network operator BaneDanmark told Funens Police that the surveillance cameras recorded the tragic accident, showing the man running to catch the departing train and then getting one foot stuck in the door while the rest of his body remained outside.

“We haven’t seen the footage yet, but the train began to run and his leg was ripped off for unknown reasons. We don’t yet know how far he was dragged along,” BaneDanmark spokeswoman Mie Brøchner told BaneDanmark late on Thursday.

As of early Friday morning, police had not released the age or identity of the victim, who is being treated at Odense University Hospital.

Train operator DSB declined to comment about the accident when contacted by TV2 News.
