Temperatures in parts of France dropped to their lowest in 40 years this week for this time in October.
On Friday the weather agency Méteo France revealed that temperatures in parts of the country, notably the Langres plateau in Haute-Marne and the south west, were up to 10C below normal for this time of year.
In Rodez in Aveyron the mercury dipped as low as -3.1C – the lowest since 1975 and a similar temperature of -3C was recorded in Bergerac in the Dordogne.
The chilly weather saw the first snow falls of the season in Burgundy and the Auvergne and in Meribel ski resort the locals were celebrating the arrival of snow.
But the cold front that came from eastern Europe won’t last long, with temperatures set to rise if only slightly at first.
On Saturday and Sunday temperatures will range between 7C and 12C in the north east and centre of the country, 12C to 16C in the north west and 15C to 20C in the south.
We can expect rain and clouds throughout the weekend.
It's the coldest it's been in Burgundy on October 15th for 40 years!
