Hollande’s ex stops book being made into movie

The ex-girlfriend of French President Francois Hollande, Valerie Trierweiler, said on Wednesday that she has stopped her tell-all book about their time together being made into a movie.

“I stopped the project in January after the attacks (by Muslim extremist gunmen on the newspaper Charlie Hebdo) and refused to sign the contract,” Trierweiler tweeted.

Her 2014 bestselling memoir, “Thank You for This Moment” (“Merci Pour ce Moment” in French), proved an embarrassment for Hollande, notably with a passage that claimed the Socialist leader was disdainful of poor people.

Some of the book betrayed bitterness at Hollande for cheating on her with a French actress, Julie Gayet, towards the end of their seven-year relationship. Hollande eventually dumped Trierweiler in January 2014.

A film producer friend of Trierweiler's, Saida Jawad, had announced in early January this year that her company was adapting the book into a film with Trierweiler's agreement.

A newsweekly, L'Express, said in its latest issue that Trierweiler saw no problem with the movie being released before France's next presidential election in 2017.

But she took to Twitter to write a “formal denial to this unverified pseudo bit of news”. Her latest tweet appeared to scotch any prospect of an authorised movie version of her book coming out.
