The Zurich farmer kept his title at the annual contest held in Ludwigsburg, Germany, but his winning pumpkin remained smaller than the 1,054-kilo monster he grew last year to claim the world record.
Earlier this month he won the Swiss national championship for the sixth time with a 750.5-kilo specimen.
The victory at Ludwigsburg, home to an annual pumpkin festival, marked the second straight European tile for Meier, a resident of the municipality of Pfungen.
The pumpkin will remain on display until November 8th, the ATS news agency reported.
With its thick skin, the pumpkin is not edible for humans.
But its seeds will be sold and the pulp will be used as fodder for livestock, ATS said.
