Anyone who has ever experienced the nerves of their wedding day, hoping dearly that everything will pass off without incident, should spare a thought for one poor couple in France.
While the bride and groom were busy saying “Oui” in the church in front of 300 guests, a mob of baseball bat-wielding thugs were trashing their wedding buffet.
The attack left catering staff at the chateau in the town of Denicé, in the Beaujolais region, fearing they were in the midst of a terror assault.
“It was a real commando operation. Everything was going through our heads when it happened, even a terror attack. The staff were traumatised,” a member of staff at the Chateau de Talancé told AFP.
“A van that we did not recognize came to the chateau and around a dozen hooded individuals got out. When they reached the esplanade, where the reception was due to take place, they threw green smoke bombs and smashed up the buffet with bars and bats,” he said.
Catering staff were forced to take refuge inside the chateau.

The violent attack was not sparked by some jealous lover or old enemy, but by football fans of the club Saint Etienne intent on ruining the big day of a fan of bitter rivals Lyon
But the poor bride and groom, who were sent word of the sacking of the buffet, were victims of mistaken identity, with the bungling hooligans trashing the wrong wedding.
On the other side of town the Lyon supporter’s wedding was passing off without incident, although according to reports fellow Lyon supporters stood guard outside the reception to make sure the thugs did not try to make up for the gaffe.
