The unnamed pair were arrested as they tried to board a plane on Wednesday after leaving their 17-year-old son at the hotel when he threw a tantrum.

The court  in Inca heard on Thursday that the eldest son had been left at the Bellevue Hotel Club in Alcudia  after he refused to board a bus to the airport with is parents and three younger siblings.

In a court ruling, Judge Catalina Mulet said: “The accused were preparing to take a bus around 9am on Wednesday from their hotel where they had been on holiday to the airport for a return flight to the UK with the rest of their family.

“When the eldest of their children refused to return home, the accused decided to continue the trip home and got on the bus.

“Their son was left at the hotel despite the fact that he had no accommodation there and that they hadn't entrusted his care to an adult or given him the means with which to look after himself,” said a summary of the sentence.

The parents were arrested as they attempted to board a plane in Palma and their children were taken into care overnight.

The whole family was reunited after the parents accepted a suspended sentence on Thursday and were allowed to fly home.

Local media reports stated that the 17-year-old boy suffered from a mental disability.
