Sweden’s Prince Carl Philip has been named the sixth best-dressed man in the world by the magazine Vanity Fair while his compatriot, actress Alicia Vikander, won first place in the Hollywood category.

The third-in-line to the Swedish throne was praised by the US magazine for the Swedish navy uniform he wore during the lavish wedding ceremony to reality show starlet Sofia Hellqvist in June.

Thousands turned out to cheer the couple after the ceremony at a horse and carriage procession through the heart of the capital.

This isn’t the first time the Swedish prince’s looks have grabbed international headlines.

In 2013 the website Buzzfeed devoted a list to the royal, detailing his best attributes including his “strong jaw” and the fact that he looks “dashing in sunglasses”.

Meanwhile, the best-dressed man, according to the magazine, was British actor Bill Nighy, followed by Greek shipping heir Stavros Niarchos III.

The Swedish royal might be happy to know that he was considered better dressed than his British counterpart Prince Harry.

Sweden was also represented in the Hollywood category by Alicia Vikander, who came in first place.

The magazine praised the star’s love of Louis Vuitton, in particular the green ensemble she wore to the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.

In June Vikander's agent told The Local that the actress was set to star opposite Matt Damon in the fifth Jason Bourne film.

Following in the footsteps of Swedish Hollywood stars such as Noomi Rapace and Joel Kinnaman, the Gothenburg-born actress rose to international fame when she appeared in Anna Karenina with British star Keira Knightley three years ago.

Since then, she has laid claim to the title as one of Hollywood's new favourite sweethearts, with roles in blockbusters such as Academy Award-nominated Danish film 'A Royal Affair', opposite Benedict Cumberbatch as WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in 'The Fifth Estate', and more recently British sci-fi thriller 'Ex Machina', released earlier this year.

The title of best-dressed woman went to Samantha Cameron, the wife of British Prime Minister David Cameron, followed by American singer Taylor Swift and ballet dancer Misty Copeland.
