Tormod Hvattum, Police Superintendent at the local Vågsøy police, said that the man had contacted him by telephone at around 3pm on Friday to confess.
“He called me half an hour ago,” he told The Local. “I know him, so he is local. This community is not so big.”
He said that, in his eyes, at least, the confession did not diminish the scale of the crime.
“I think it was a terrible thing to do. It was ‘low scale’, if that’s an expression, in English. I’ve never had a similar case and I hope I don’t get it either.”
Terje Djuvik (26) and Lene-Marie Lågeide (24), whose wedding day last Saturday was spoiled by the robbery, are now honeymooning Alanya in Turkey, so Hvattum said that the local police had yet to ascertain the value of the goods stolen.
According to the local Fjordenes Tidende newspaper, the two thieves got away from several boxes of expensive silver cutlery from the local Hardanger Bestikk company, and also stole an iPhone from one of the guests.
The robber struck as the chef and waiters were formally thanked for the food and service they had provided.
“It changes nothing really. The scar that was put on the big day of ours is still there,” Lene-Marie told VG newspaper.
