Berlin police said on Monday that transport authorities are investigating the death of a 23-year-old British citizen, who was hit by a car while crossing the street last Thursday.
Police said that at about 10.50 pm on Thursday, the young tourist was crossing the street in the Friedrichshain district while the traffic light for pedestrians was red.
A 26-year-old BMW driver was driving along the same street, Stralauer Allee, and hit the British man. The tourist sustained injuries to his legs, head and spine.
Emergency services rushed the man to hospital, where he died due to the injuries on Friday.
A spokesman from the British Embassy in Berlin verified to The Local that a British citizen died in a traffic accident last week.
“I can confirm that a British national was killed in a traffic accident last week and we have provided consular services to the family at this difficult time,” British Embassy spokesman William Gatward said.
Transportation authorities are still investigating the incident.
