Ada Colau, Barcelona’s new left-wing mayor, might need to add “fixing the city hall’s lifts” to her to-do list.
She was trapped for half an hour on Friday morning along with seven others, including the pony-tailed leader of anti-austerity party, Podemos, Pablo Iglesias.

Iglesias tweeted a selfie of himself with Colau in the lift, commenting that a famous Catalan comedy programme, Polònia, were going to have a field day with this.
Spaniards quickly remarked on what a good sense of humour the politicians had, and questioned whether you would ever see Spanish Prime Minister, Mariano Rajoy, taking a selfie if he was in the same position.

Iglesias sent out a second tweet 20 minutes later, commenting that the temperatures were rising. Spain is currently experiencing temperatures of up to 40C as a heat wave hits the country this weekend.
