Copenhagen Airport to have year’s busiest day

Copenhagen Airport will have its busiest day of the year on Friday, as more than 90,000 Danes are expected to pass through its gates on what is the last day of school for the nation’s children.

With the weather being what it has been this summer, many Danes are prepared to escape to warmer climes as soon as little Jens and Mette finish their final day of school.

Friday is projected to be the busiest day of the year at Copenhagen Airport, although airport officials predict it will be slightly less crowded than last year’s peak travel day.

“This year Danes have apparently spread their departure out a bit more, which together with fewer cruise passengers will give a slightly lower number of passengers on the big travel day – a bit over 90,000,” airline spokesman Lars Lemche said in a press release.

Lemche told Politiken that there will likely be up to 25 individual days between now and the end of August in which around 90,000 passengers will pass through Copenhagen Airport.

On the busiest summer days, around 800 flights arrive and depart through the airport, around 100 more than a normal day.

Airport officials said that passengers should not be overly affected by the extra traffic but getting through security might take longer than normal.

“We are ready and have full staffing. Beyond that, we will go everything we can so that the many passengers will have a good start for their holiday,” airport spokesman Henrik Peter Jørgensen said in a press release.

Jørgensen said that the average time for passing through security at the airport has been just over four minutes and that 99.8 percent of all passengers make it through security control in under 15 minutes.
