“It would be a mistake not to take advantage of this window of opportunity,” Renzi told a joint news conference with French President Francois Hollande, adding that an emergency summit of eurozone leaders in Luxembourg on Monday should result in a “positive conclusion”.
Renzi was speaking just hours after Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’ office said he had presented proposals that were aimed at reaching a “definitive solution” to end months of acrimonious negotiations.
Hollande for his part urged Europe to act “with responsibility and solidarity”.
“There is no time to lose… Each day counts.”
If no deal is reached, Greece looks likely to default on an IMF debt payment of some 1.5 billion euros ($1.7 billion) due on June 30, risking an exit from the eurozone.
Renzi: Greece, EU should accept ‘win-win accord’
