Switzerland's women's mountain bike world champion Jolanda Neff wrote herself a little chapter of sporting history on Saturday when she became the first ever European Games gold medalist in Baku.

The 22-year-old — who has been competing since the age of six — beat her compatriot Kathrin Stirnemann with Maja Wloszczowska of Poland taking bronze in the seven lap race.

“It is an amazing event here at the first European Games and to win the first gold medal feels amazing,” said Neff.
