The man has been charged for six cases of sexual contact with children under 10 years old, and five cases of sexually offensive or indecent behaviour in front of children under the age of 16.

He has confessed to a some of the charges, including several involving sexual intercourse with children, a crime which carries a penalty of up to 21 years in prison.

Police are presently analysing data seized on the accused computer, where they found images of children in sexual positions.

Einar Sparboe Lysnes, police inspector with the local Tromsø police said that he expected that the ongoing investigation would end with the man being charged for additional crimes.

There is unfortunately every reason to believe that we're going to uncover more abuse, and find more aggrieved,” he told VG.

The man was arrested on May 7, a day after the police were alerted to possible abuse taking place in the kindergarten.

Following his arrest, police in Tromsø have begun interviewing young people who played at the football club in Tromsø where the man worked as a coach between 2009 and 2013.

Police in Harstad, a town close to Tromsø, have opened their own investigation into the man, who did work experience at a second kindergarten in the town while he was studying to be a kindergarten teacher.

“We need to get further details on the time period when he was there, and what dealings he had with children,” said Morten Holen of the local Harstad police told NRK.
