Incredible video of Spain from space station

An illuminating video newly released by the European Space Agency shows off Spain from a whole new angle, 400km above Earth.

Italian astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti has been documenting her time on board the International Space Station (ISS) through a series of incredible photographs.

A series of photographs of Spain, from the Canary Islands over the Iberian peninsula and up to the French border, were stitched together to make the incredible time lapse video.

The video begins at the Canary Islands, their coasts heavily illuminated compared to the interior of the islands.

The shot then sweeps northwards, taking in Spain from its southern tip, highlighting just how close the south of Spain is to the north of Morocco.

Cristoforetti is living and working aboard the ISS as part of the six-strong Expedition 42 and 43 crew.

She has also uploaded a series of shots of Spain, from the Catalan coast to the Spanish capital, Madrid.

Cristoforetti proved that you can take the Italian out of Italy, but you certainly can’t take Italy out of the Italian when she became the first astronaut to enjoy an espresso in space earlier this month.
