The woman had bought a box of bananas from a large supermarket chain and was driving home when she spotted a viper slithering out of the box.
She stayed calm but immediately stopped her car and called the emergency services – who alerted “Mr. Rattlesnake”, snake specialist Georg Jachan from Gföhl in Krems.
The reptile expert arrived on the scene with special equipment and caught the snake. “For now I am taking care of the snake,” he told the Heute tabloid. “It’s a harmless viperine snake which looks very similar to the venomous viper,” he said.
Jachan, also known as the ‘snake Pope’ suspects that the reptile was imported along with a fruit delivery from Spain.
