Last year, almost 16 percent of employed men were working less than full-time, compared to just eight percent in 1994, the federal statistics office said in a report issued on Thursday.
The level of part-time employment for fathers with children of school age has tripled in the last 20 years, from 3.5 to nearly 11 percent, the office said.
The figures showed that more couples with kids up to the age of 14 both worked reduced work hours.
The report showed that part-time work in Switzerland is still mainly a phenomenon dominated by women, with only four out of ten employed females working full time.
Overall, almost one in two salaried employees (44.6 percent) in 2014 worked on a “flexitime” basis, up from 41.7 percent in 2004.
Among other findings, the report said that one in five employed persons (20.5 percent) last year usually worked on Sunday, while more than one in ten (10.6 percent) worked on Sunday.
