Spanish spring weather arriving in Sweden

Kristianstad in southern Sweden enjoyed the hottest day this week in Sweden, with a whopping 19.3C on Wednesday. But Friday is poised to break that record, according to Norwegian weather institute Storm.

“It looks like it. We've had 19.3C in Kristianstad and 18C in Halmstad. [Friday] will be close to that, but it's still difficult to promise for sure that there will really be a new record,” meteorologist Stig-Arild Fagerli told Swedish newspaper Expressen early on Friday morning.

She said the warm weather is mostly down to winds sweeping in from the south-west, from Spain, southern France and northern Africa.

“Above all, it's because of the mild winds coming in, quite simply. At the same time we'll have sun, and in April the sun really starts to feel warm. In combination with the warm air we could absolutely get 20C,” she said, but added that it will feel cooler in areas near the coast.

Southern parts of Sweden will catch most of the long awaited April sun. Meanwhile, central Sweden can hope for temperatures of at least up to 15C

Saturday will be another good day for Swedish sun seekers to start working on their summer tan. But on Sunday temperatures are expected to be no higher than 5-9C, and northern parts may even see them fall below zero.

“Saturday will be much like Friday. But then we'll have a cold front passing us during the night between Saturday and Sunday. Temperatures will fall,” said Fagerli.
