Simba, from Meckenheim, North Rhine-Westphalia, was freed by firefighters after a neighbour heard a scratching sound in her newly-renovated bathroom.
“It's a miracle, a gift,” owner Helga Henkel, who lost track of Simba after the night of March 8th, told the Bonn General-Anzeiger.
“We looked everywhere for Simba, hung up notices, watched out for cats' eyes with a torch at night,” she said.
Professor Reto Neiger of the Small Animals Clinic in Gießen said that cats could survive for a long time on very little water, as they were formerly desert-dwelling animals.
Although four weeks is a long time to survive in such a case, it's not completely out of the ordinary, he added.
Henkel said that while Simba isn't quite back to his old self yet, he has already regained 200 or 300 grammes of lost weight.
