Sweden Easter forecast: sunshine and showers

You could spend your Easter holiday basking in glorious sunshine – or curled up inside hiding from the snow – depending on where in Sweden you live, according to weather forecasts.

Spring has already had its weather ups and downs, and it looks like the Easter weekend is going to be much the same. According to Norwegian weather institute Storm, Good Friday is the best bet to catch some sunshine.

“Southern Sweden in particular could get nice weather. Temperatures will be pleasant, up to around 10 degrees,” meteorologist Kristen Myklebust Ravnestad told Swedish tabloid Expressen on Thursday.

“The night can be cold, and we may even see some frost during the night, but the midday sun will feel warm. In northern parts of Sweden, it will get a little bit colder,” said Ravnestad.

It was snowing in Stockholm on Thursday, and Swedes would do well to brace themselves for Saturday as well, when the weather is set to take a turn for the worse again – a far cry from earlier in March when temperatures hit a record 18.7C.

Meteorologist Lovisa Andersson at Swedish weather institute SMHI warned regional newspaper Upsala Nya Tidning that some parts of Sweden may see more snow as cold winds sweep in from the north.

“We will have classic April weather this Easter. The days will be varied, with occasionally clouds that could result in rain and snow and in some areas even hail,” she said.

The Local previously reported that Sweden could be facing an Easter weekend of travel chaos. Thousands of rail travellers are expected to be affected by heavy delays while maintenance work is carried out between Maundy Thursday, April 2nd, and Easter Monday.

But a strike threatening to cancel all passenger ferry traffic between Sweden and Finland was called off at the eleventh hour on Wednesday.
