Google named most attractive employer

The American IT company was honoured at a ceremony on Wednesday night in Zurich, the ATS news agency reported.

Google, which did not make it into the top ten last year, arrived on top in four out of five categories to evaluate the appeal of an employer.

The internet search engine giant came ahead of Patek Philippe, the luxury Geneva watch company ranked first last year, and Swatch, the world’s largest watch company, based in Biel/Bienne.

The Schwyz-based pocket knife company Victorinox and the Zurich Airport rounded out the top five.

Two-thirds of people polled said they would like or like very much to work for Google, which is noted for creating a workplace that aims to make people think creatively and push boundaries.

The company has its largest engineering office in Europe in Zurich.

“This company is trendy and offers very attractive conditions in the areas that Swiss workers consider as very important for an employer,” Richard Jager, head of Randstad Switzerland is quoted as saying by ATS.


The criteria judged the most important for employees is the atmosphere of the workplace followed by the pay, job security, the nature of the work and the balance permitted between professional and private life.

Google stands out as the only non-Swiss company in Randstad’s top ten list.

The ranking resulted from a survey of 7,000 Swiss residents aged from 18 to 65 who were asked to give their opinion of the 150 largest companies in the country.
