France to host another US fast food giant

Despite their reputation for being the kings of gastronomy, the French love their fast-food and particularly when it comes from across the pond. And now another burger giant is on its way.

The French might gobble down the most Big Macs after America but a new US burger giant is set to challenge McDonald’s for Gallic appetites.

The burger specialist Five Guys looks like it will be the latest fast-food giant to make the journey across the Atlantic, France’s Huffington Post reported on Wednesday.

The chain’s intentions were given away by a job advert appearing on the website Apec, reproduced by the site FastandFood for a “Passionate restaurant manager”.

The job description suggested the applicant needed to be “positive and flexible for the launch of their first restaurant in France”.

Five Guys, which has more than 1,000 restaurants in the US, began its international expansion in 2013 in the UK.

A report last year found that French sales of hamburgers, pizzas, hotdogs and other fast food grub surpassed those of traditional restaurant dishes for the first time.

Indeed, the burger is proving more popular than ever. A study last year found that nearly one of every two sandwiches sold in France in 2013 was a burger, up from one in nine in 2000.

A good cheeseboard in France is generally considered to consist of at least three ‘families’ – a soft cheese, a hard cheese and either a blue or a goat’s cheese. Remember, too, an odd number of fromages on a platter is better than an even number, according from cheese etiquettists
