Madrid's Puerta del Sol was packed with supporters of left-wing protest party Podemos, on Saturday, as thousands of people from different backgrounds, young and old, came out in support of the relatively new political party, whose name means "yes we can".
The crowd was a sea of purple, the colour of Podemos, and flags – Spanish flags that had one red stripe substituted for purple (the flag of the Spanish republic), as well as Greek and Catalan flags all flying in the tightly-packed crowd.
The Local hit the streets to catch up with just some of the tens of thousands of supporters and found that many are far from the 'young radical activist' so commonly associated with the far-left party.
