Italian Erasmus student falls to death in Holland

An Italian student studying at a university in Holland has died after falling out of a window, according to Italian media reports.

Francesco Branchi, 24, was from Desenzano del Garda, a town in the province of Brescia, Lombardy.

The student of oriental languages at Ca' Foscari University of Venice was on an Erasmus study programme at Radboud University in Nijmegen, a city close to the German border, when he fell out of a second floor window of the house he was living in, Brescia Today reported.

The accident happened last weekend, according to a report on Brescia Oggi.

Friends described Branchi, who majored in Japanese, as a "simple guy" who had an "unbridled passion for life" and was "always smiling".

His funeral will be held in his home town on Saturday.
