A mobility scooter user had brought his case before the courts, saying that his vehicle was vital to his mobility and he should be able to ride with it on the bus, reported the Westen Allgemeine Zeitung.
The Seventh District Court in Gelsenkirchen ruled against his request, saying those on motor scooters, or E-Scooters as they are known in Germany, had no right to use public transit with their vehicles.
The judges found that the mobility aids posed a safety risk not just to fellow bus passengers, but to the drivers themselves as well.
The large E-Scooters block bus aisles for all bus passengers and take up space for wheelchair users and prams.
Furthermore, the courts investigation found that the scooters can tip while being transported on a bus, which could injure bus passengers and scooter drivers.
The man who brought the suit can still appeal the decision to the state court of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Other transportation authorities, such as the Cologne Transportation Board, has already privately banned the transport of E-Scooters on busses and trains locally.
