The woman, who has not been named, is now under house arrest following an investigation by police who filmed the abuse on hidden cameras.

The alarm was raised by parents of students at the school, who complained that their children lived in continual fear and discomfort because of her aggressive and violent behaviour, Tgcom24 reported.

According to their claims, some of the children were systematically slapped, shoved, insulted and threatened with reprisals if they told their parents what had happened in class.

The teacher also allegedly forced the children to hand over their snacks.

This isn’t the first time a teacher has hit headlines for abusing students.

In September last year, three teachers in Naples province were put under house arrest after investigators filmed them allegedly beating up school pupils.

Between them they are accused of 66 incidents of abuse against pupils at the Vincenzo Russo school in Palma Campania, east of Naples.

Police were brought into the school after a mother of two pupils complained that the children had come home with bruises and other injuries.
