The young recruits were ordered to leave their barracks in Setermoen, northern Norway, for an unclothed jog in the early hours of Monday morning, newspaper Dagbladet reports.

They were not even permitted to wear shoes and all six needed medical attention.

“This kind of thing is not supposed to happen,” army spokesman Obit Aleksander Jankov told the newspaper.

“Boys and girls called up for military service for the first time should be brought into a safe environment.

“Consequently we are taking this incident very seriously and want to get to the bottom of what happened.”

The likely culprits were other soldiers from Brigade Nord, he said.

The spokesman did not wish to speculate on the specific case but said in more general terms that anyone found guilty of this kind of behavior could be kicked out of the army.
