The movie – which is about a young writer who hides in a Stockholm apartment – was nominated in 13 different categories.
Based on a novel by Klas Östergren it charts the story of the apartment's disappeared former inhabitant brothers and stars David Dencik, a Swedish actor who has starred in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011) and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011).
The Guldbagge awards are Sweden's version of America's Academy Awards (Oscars) and the 2015 ceremony is set to take place on January 26th.
The prizes have been presented every year since 1964 and are given to those deemed to have made outstanding contributions to Swedish film. In total around 450 Guldbagge Awards have been handed out.
Ruben Östlund's movie Force Majeure (or Turist, in Swedish) received 10 Guldbagge nominations, after already picking up the prestigious Cannes jury prize in May 2014.
Turist follows a Swedish family's skiing holiday in the French Alps. When an avalanche threatens to mow down the entire family, the father flees, leaving his wife and children behind to face certain death. When the dust settles and the family survives, the characters have to fight to understand whether their nuclear family is worth saving.
Östlund will be in Los Angeles for the Golden Globe awards on Sunday, where Force Majeure is nominated for Best Foreign Film. He will discover if he has made the shortlist of Oscar nominees next week.
"I wasn't sure it was possible for a film like this to have an audience breakthrough considering the current movie industry and all its popcorn and coke," he told The Local in December. "Now it's been sold to 68 countries."
Roy Andersson's A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence – another Swedish comedy drama which has also performed well internationally – was nominated in seven Guldbagge categories on Thursday.
