The new year is here and so is the winter chill. But there's still plenty to do in Sweden. Here's a host of new shows, exhibitions, and activities around the country.

Exciting times for Stockholmers lie ahead, with a bunch of new exhibitions kicking off this month.

You may have noticed this big open mouth on the buses around the city. It's the sweet new exhibition at the Nordiska Museum, called Sugar, which opened on Wednesday and will run until September. It takes a look at all "the sweet things in Sweden from the Middle Ages to today's mass consumption".

More interested in photography? Then head over to the Moderna Museet, which is also boasting a new exhibition, this time by Christer Strömholm and entitled A Way of Life. It promises to look at every side of Swedish photography from the 40s to today.

There's another interesting-looking bird photography exhibition that's just taken flight at the Natural History Museum – The Age of the Raptors – which sees the 50 best snaps from nature photographer Patrik Olofsson. He followed the 17 different raptor species that regularly breed in Sweden.

Across the country in west Sweden's Gothenburg there is plenty to do too.

In fact, there are a handful of exhibitions that all end this week so be quick. They include: Gothenburg From Above, featuring aerial photography by Lars Bygdemark and Mark The Line – an international group exhibition featuring artists from all over the world.

Lastly, there's plenty of fun for the kids in Malmö, which will see the Disney on Ice Magical Ice Festival open mid-next week at the Malmö Arena.

All your favourite characters will be right there in skates. But please note, the show will be in Swedish.

Have a great weekend, and click below for even more event options.
