Police were called to the scene late on Sunday night after the object was thrown through the window of the home in Högdalen in Stockholm.
Officers were alerted by the tenant of the home, who ran to his neighbours and told them to evacuate the building.
The apartment block and the street were cordoned off by police, who reported that the suspected explosive had "wires sticking out of it". By 11.30pm, officers announced that it was safe for residents to return home.
The man who lived in the targeted apartment had been shot in the shoulder on Friday in nearby Hökarängen, reported the Aftonbladet newspaper.
Police refused to comment if they suspected a connection in the two attacks. Bomb technicians are investigating the object.
