Solberg: the fight for freedom isn’t won

Norway’s Prime Minister Erna Solberg placed her focus on the international security situation at her traditional six-monthly press conference on Wednesday, and condemned Tuesday’s Taliban attack on a school in Pakistan.

“It has been an exciting year in Norwegian politics, but I would argue that we have good reason to remember 2014 first and foremost for the new security situation,” Solberg said.

“International questions have dominated the government’s work”.

Solberg pointed to the illegal Russian annexation of Ukraine’s Crimea peninsula, the conflict in eastern Ukraine and the gains made by terror group ISIS in Syria and Iraq. She also mentioned the ebola outbreak in West Africa and Tuesday’s Taliban massacre at a Pakistan school.

“I condemn this attack in the strongest possible terms,” Solberg said.

“2014 shows that the fight for freedom and democracy isn’t won – it’s something we need to fight for every day.”
