They tend to offer cheaper prices than local ski instructors, but don’t have the necessary training, Vorarlberg Ski Instructor Association chairman Erich Melmer told Austrian broadcaster ORF.
Registered ski instructors in Vorarlberg, western Austria, must pay social security contributions and have a number of years of experience.
Unregistered instructors often offer their services through tour operators, but may have hardly any experience.
Melmer said that a new instructor pass will soon be issued, which all teachers must carry with them on the slopes.
The ski season has had a slow start in Austria, with many resorts in Tyrol, Vorarlberg and Carinthia still waiting for snow and colder temperatures.
Tyrol’s Zillertal Arena has said it will have “limited skiing” from Friday 12th December, a week later than planned. The slopes in Kitzbühel have been open since Monday.
Resorts in Styria and Upper Austria have been using snow cannons to get the slopes ready for skiers.
