The 43-year-old man left Sierra Leone, where he contracted the deadly disease, on Thursday on a plane bound for Geneva airport overnight, the ATS news agency reported.
He is to be treated at the Geneva University Hospital (HUG), where he will receive care in a specially prepared room in a secure building isolated from the rest of the hospital, ATS said.
Other people with suspected cases of Ebola have been checked at the hospital and at the Lausanne university hospital but they turned out not to have the virus.
The Swiss population will not be put in any danger by the Cuban doctor’s transfer here, authorities maintain.
He was one of 165 from Cuba’s medical corps, sent by that nation to Sierra Leone, one of the countries in western Africa where Ebola is quickly spreading.
According to the deputy director of the international medical cooperation organization of Cuba, the doctor “began to feel a fever on Sunday but without any other symptoms”.
Ebola has claimed the lives of 5,420 people in eight African countries, while 15,145 are infected with the virus, according to latest figures from the Geneva-based World Health Organization released on Wednesday.
Sierra Leone is one of the places where the transmission of Ebola remains “intense and widespread”, the organization said.
